PDFs, or Adobe’s Portable Document Format, are commonly used as external documents in Webcourses@UCF. However, not all PDFs are accessible, and many could be improved upon for all student access. How can you tell if your document is accessible? The first thing to check is whether the text can be highlighted. If text cannot be highlighted, the PDF file is not accessible and considered an image by screen reading software. To address these concerns, consider these options. If you’ve created a document using Microsoft, review the directions in Microsoft 365 to save an accessible PDF. If a PDF is derived from a digital format, such as an online journal, use the weblink to the original resource in your Webcourses@UCF course. If this is not possible, explore these remediation options: Contact your instructional designer or Webcourses@UCF Support for further assistance with making your PDF documents fully accessible to your students. |
