Mid-semester is a good time to seek feedback from your students on the effectiveness of your instruction as you have time to adjust your course if needed. Ask your students these three simple questions: - STOP: What could we stop doing because it does not increase your learning success in this class?
- START: What could we start doing to increase your learning success in this class?
- CONTINUE: What should we continue doing because it is positively impacting your learning success in this class?
An ungraded, anonymous quiz is the perfect tool for this. To learn about quiz types, visit What quiz types can I create in a course? Canvas Instructor guide.

Zoom Tips for Accessibility
|
|
|
Sometimes moving around your computer using a mouse is not possible. It can be especially difficult for people with vision impairments. Zoom has built-in keyboard shortcuts that allow you to navigate the Zoom settings without using your mouse. For example, to raise/lower your hand in a Zoom meeting, press the Alt+Y keys (or Option+Y for Mac users). Some shortcuts can be used as global shortcuts, meaning they will work even when Zoom is not in focus. To learn more about Zoom keyboard shortcuts, visit Zoom’s Hot keys and keyboard shortcuts support page.

Students express greater satisfaction with online learning when they perceive teacher presence in a course, so it is important to provide students an opportunity to meet the teacher behind the computer screen, such as Professor Josh Colwell introducing himself during his online physics course. Check out Meet the Instructor for tips on how to introduce yourself to your online students. As you continue to look for ways to improve your online and blended courses, check out the other posts in Design with Quality in Mind, a growing collection of brief articles, based on UCF’s Quality and High-Quality Course Reviews, that describes ways to support all students to succeed in your online courses.

In today’s Kelvin’s Corner, we recommend this 39-minute episode from the Lasallian Way Online podcast from the Christian Brothers University called “Academic Integrity in Online Classes.” In this episode, Dr. Dale Hale leads the Center for Digital Instruction (CDI) team in a discussion about academic integrity and what it means for a Lasallian institution to approach cheating and plagiarism in online courses.
