COVID-19 continues to challenge how our Hybrid Work Pilot is developing. However, as public health conditions improve, it's important to try to create more truly "hybrid" work opportunities into our daily schedules, such as appropriate in-person meetings and other human interactions where participants are comfortable being together. Redefining productivity in Hybrid Work

In a recent Harvard Business Review article, “Let’s Redefine ‘Productivity’ for the Hybrid Era,” Microsoft Chief Scientist Jaime Teevan suggests that pre-pandemic measures of productivity aren’t enough to accurately assess performance in a hybrid work environment. Instead, managers should consider more inclusive measures that promote well-being, collaboration and innovation. During our Hybrid Work Pilot, how can we incorporate these ideas as we reframe our own measures of success?

Leadership Transition at Continuing Education

With the departure of UCF Continuing Education Executive Director Sean Armstrong to Washington University in St. Louis, former UCF Connect Vice Provost Jeff Jones will serve as interim director on a part time basis. Jones, who oversaw Continuing Education in his previous role, brings decades of experience in the space and will be supported through the transition by Program Directors Chris Rose and Lisa Ruscigno.

Congratulations to Chuck Dziuban and Patsy Moskal of DDL’s Research Initiative for Teaching Effectiveness on the recent publication of Blended Learning: Research Perspectives, Vol. 3. The new book, which they wrote with Charles Graham and Anthony Picciano, offers new perspectives on the state of blended learning as influenced by advancing instructional design technologies. Volume 3 is the last of the team's blended learning trilogy that they began in 2007. Their next project is a book on analytics and adaptive learning.

Thompson Elected to New WCET Role

CDL Executive Director Kelvin Thompson has been elected to serve on the WCET Steering Committee for the “Digital Learning Practices” slate. WCET, the WHICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies, is a regional U.S. compact on a mission to improve the quality and reach of digital learning programs.

DDL on the Road
Arianna Davis and Marie Bartlett of the Faculty Multimedia Center represented DDL at OLC Accelerate 2021, October 5-8, presenting “Not Just Another Zoom Class: How to amplify and engage students with tools used by Twitch streamers!” The pair also volunteered to provide technical support during the conference, along with Jackie Compton from the iDev team. Other DDL employees who attended the conference include instructional designers Sue Bauer, Tina Calandrino, Joe Lloyd, Roslyn Miller, Charlotte Jones-Roberts, Nancy Swenson, Trudy Trail-Constant and Florence Williams.
