Participants will enjoy the workshop as a live virtual event. Let's Party at Lake Claire
The DDL Annual Picnic — 1 p.m. April 28 — is a chance to kick back, eat tasty foods, launch a paddle board or canoe, take a nature hike, play volleyball, partake in the lakeside scenery, and enjoy coworker company in the great outdoors. We'll also announce the 2023 DDL Awards. Keep an eye on your in-box for details on ride sharing, menus, activities, and more coming soon.

Celebrate Black History Month
UCF commemorates the culture and contributions of Black Americans during the month of February with panel discussions, musical performances, and more. Here are three ways to celebrate: ● BHM Celebration, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 21), UCF Downtown: Join CDE with MSC and BFSA to celebrate Black student, faculty, staff, and community leaders at the Downtown campus. ● Brechner Series – Joy and Pain: Black Music of the United States Global Praxis, 2 p.m. Feb. 26, Orange County Regional History Center: Don Harrell, UCF professor of Africana Studies, explores the dynamic relationship between music and society with a focus on rap and hip-hop culture, its proliferation, and its functional use in worldwide social justice movements. ● John T. Washington Lecture Series, 4-7 p.m. Feb. 28, John C. Hitt Library: The UCF Africana Studies Program presents speaker Dr. Mwita Chacha, who will discuss recent trends in regional cooperation in Africa.

AIM High Honors Faculty Saving Students Millions
|
|
On Feb. 1, the AIM High event recognized UCF faculty members and staff who have made significant efforts to keep their required course materials affordable for students. The program featured guest speakers, awards, testimonials, and time to network and learn more about ways the university is collaborating to reduce and/or remove cost barriers to academic content. Overall, the combined savings to students in 2022 totaled more than $10 million.
The 2023 honorees include: ● Nicole Lapeyrouse, Chemistry — AIM High Impact Award (individual) ● UCF Anthropology Department — AIM High Impact Award (group) ● David Rozek, Psychology — AIM High Knights' Choice Award

Why Students Love Mobile Learning

CDL Instructional Designers Baiyun Chen and Aimee Denoyelles, along with Nicholson School of Communication & Media Associate Professor Tim Brown and former CDL Assistant Director of Mobile Strategy & Innovation Ryan Seilhamer (now at Penn State University), compared results from more than 10 years of survey data to learn how students use mobile devices in a new article for Educause Review. "The Evolving Landscape of Students' Mobile Learning Practices In Higher Education" explores device ownership, usage, and beliefs to offer insight for practitioners to better leverage mobile platforms.

The 16th Annual UCF-Orlando Jazz Festival — Feb. 24-25 — features UCF’s renowned jazz studies program, along with some of the finest jazz musicians in the country for two nights of live performances at the Nicholson School of Communication & Media Auditorium. Highlights include a trumpet extravaganza, Marty Morell and Eddie Gomez from the legendary Bill Evans Trio, Jason Marsalis joining UCF's own Jazz Professors, the Flying Horse Big Band, and a celebration of life for Dan Miller. Tickets for UCF faculty and staff are only $10 and students are free with valid I.D.

Last Chances to Catch Knights Basketball
The 2022-23 seasons for the UCF Knights women's and men's basketball is winding down, but you still have a few chances to catch them in action at Addition Financial Arena. The women take on Temple at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 21) and Cincinnati at 2 p.m. Feb 25, while the men host Cincinnati at noon Sunday (Feb. 19) and bitter rival USF at 7 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 22).
