Did the switch to remote instruction in Spring 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic cause you to rethink your instruction modalities? With the move to remote teaching, many faculty members were left to restructure how content would be delivered to students in the future.
Online teaching at UCF is not new, but due to these uncharted waters of the past year, faculty have been faced with the difficult task of how to prep their coursework to meet the future needs of students as we look forward to a post-COVID world.
With that in mind, the Division of Digital Learning is opening the Digital Learning Course Redesign Initiative (DL CRI) call for proposals for Spring 2021.
We have been granted an extension that utilizes unallocated funds from the original investment to build upon the successes and lessons learned with an eye toward scale to maximize our collective impact on student success here at UCF.
Our original 3-year initiative exceeded our goals and expectations, so we have decided to use the momentum spurred on by the switch to remote instruction to seek new group projects to ensure faculty readiness as we navigate the future of education and meet new challenges that may arise from the ongoing pandemic.
The goal of this initiative is to impact student learning by increasing successful course completion (reduced DFW rates - D/F/Withdraw), particularly in the GEP and STEM courses, and to improve FTIC & Transfer student persistence through a strategic course redesign process that leverages the benefits of online, blended, adaptive, and active learning.
For this round, we will be offering three themed tracks of digital redesign group projects which include Personalized Adaptive Learning (PAL), Program Level Redesign, and Post COVID Redesign. With an emphasis on scale, only group projects will be considered.
The Faculty Lead for the project will have the opportunity to earn $5,000 and each faculty team member will earn $3,000. Additionally, each faculty participant will be awarded $1,500 for a dedicated Course Assistant.
