Dear Faculty,

As we approach the end of the semester, it is important to identify Panopto content that you may want to retain for future use. As a reminder, UCF’s retention policy for Panopto content is as follows:

• Panopto videos are moved from an active state to an archived or “cold storage” state after 13 months of inactivity (date last viewed).
• If a video has not been viewed for an additional 11 months in the archived state, the content is then permanently deleted.

Fortunately, videos stored in a Panopto private folder are excluded from all retention policies. Therefore, if you have recordings that you would like to save for later use, we recommend storing them in your private folder within Panopto. For assistance with this process, or to have a private folder created, please contact your college Panopto Administrator, or send an email to the Faculty Multimedia Center (FMC@ucf.edu).

Training Opportunities

For anyone who is new to Panopto or would simply like a refresher, we encourage you to enroll in Panopto Essentials, or to attend an in-person Panopto workshop at the newly redesigned Faculty Multimedia Center (FMC) in Classroom Building 1 (CB1). This hour-long workshop, if attended in full, is equivalent to completing Panopto Essentials and grants access to Panopto in eligible academic courses.

At the FMC, you will have the opportunity to speak with a Panopto administrator from the university, as well as explore the various technologies and services offered to all UCF faculty, such as light boards, audio and video recording, 3D printing, and AR/VR tools.

The FMC has on-site (CB1, Room 202) and virtual (via Zoom) Summer Panopto workshops scheduled for the following dates and times:

Continued Access to Panopto

We hope that Panopto has been an effective and impactful tool for you and your students. If you plan to use Panopto again in an upcoming semester, but do not have the ability to enable the “Video Lecture Capture” option in the Faculty Webcourses Manager, please contact Webcourses@UCF Support.

Please note: If the “Video Lecture Capture” option is selected for your upcoming Summer courses, the Panopto Videos integration will be automatically added to the navigation menu in your Webcourses@UCF course roughly two weeks before the start of the semester.

If you are interested in recording content early, we recommend recording to your private folder in Panopto, then moving the content to your academic course folder once it has been generated.
